After Google’s integration of Material Design with the official launch of Android Lollipop last November, scores of developers have been rushing to update their apps’ to match Google’s newest design language. It’s no difference with icon designer Chris Morales, who showed off his take on Material Design with the release of his sixth icon pack on Thursday, Switch UI.
This time, Switch UI icons are rounded squares because they make for an interface that looks friendlier. The elements within the squares are also accompanied by shadows, a hallmark of Material Design language, which also makes the icons look more stereoscopic. In terms of colour, Morales implements soft pastel colours that he has used in many of his other icon packs to give off a warm and vibrant feel. In my opinion, this is the best set Morales has made as he pays attention to his design language in even more detail this time.
To match up with Material Design guidelines, which essentially is a design language imitating sheets of paper, Switch UI icons blends in perfectly looking like small cards that pop out of the screen. I highly recommend using this icon theme with the new Material Nova Launcher that is beta right now for a unified UI experience.
There are currently 1300 icons in this set and the pack also comes loaded with 27 wallpapers so you won’t be running out of any homescreen ideas soon.
